Installation Instructions for the SoPhTec® C-250 Water Conditioner

The SoPhTec® Model C-250 Water Conditioner is very easy to install. However, before attempting to install the unit please review the following instructions. (These instructions will be furnished with your water conditioner.)

Do not install the Model C-250 on a steam pipe or a pipe that carries water which exceeds 180° F.

The SoPhTec® Model C-250 Water Conditioner is designed for installation on plastic, copper, stainless or other non-ferrous, non-magnetic pipe or tubing with an outside diameter of 1/4" to 3/4". However, the unit has been shown to be effective on smaller or larger diameter pipe or tube and on iron or steel pipe or tube. The design flow rate range is 0.2 gal/min to 5.0 gal/min.

When the Model C-500 and the Model C-250 Water Conditioner are installed as a system, the Model C-250 Water Conditioner should be installed on the hot-water line exiting the water heater.

For apartment or condominium use, the main water-supply line may be inaccessible, in which case a Model C-250 Water Conditioner should be installed on the cold-water line which supplies the water heater. For other installations, such as on dishwashers, ice makers, coffee makers, steam tables, etc., additional C-250s should be installed on the incoming water line as close to the equipment as possible.

Prior to any installation, examine the pipe where the unit is to be installed. If the pipe is heavily coated with paint or other material, clean this material off a sufficient length of the pipe to accomodate the Model C-250 Water Conditioner.

To install, unscrew both attaching screws as far as possible. One screw will disengage from one half of the unit, allowing you to place the unit around the pipe or tubing. When the unit is in place around the pipe, reengage the screw and tighten both screws equally until the unit is clamped firmly to the pipe. The water flow can be in either direction with regard to the Model C-250 Water Conditioner.

Once in place, the Model C-250 Water Conditioner normally requires no service of any kind. However, under certain conditions an accumulation of ferrous material can occur on the inside of the pipe where the C-250 is installed which can reduce the effectiveness of the C-250. To avoid this possibility, it is recommended that the C-250 be removed from the pipe every six to twelve months. With the unit removed, run water through the pipe for three to four minutes to flush the line. Reinstall the C-250 per the instructions above.
